Tickets for PCPA season 2016-17 now available

The Poway Center for the Performing Arts will be hosting a stellar line-up of musicians, comedians and more in the 2016-17 season.

Kicking off the new season will be Crystal Bowersox, performing with special guests Eve Selis and Marc Twang, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24. Bowersox, who appeared on the ninth season of “American Idol,” has been called “the best female singer-songwriter to grace the American Idol stage to date” by Rolling Stone magazine. Her music is a blend of blues, country, folk and rock and is inspired by Melissa Etheridge, Janis Joplin and Sista Otis.

Country music legend Clint Black will be performing at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 as an encore performance. Black returns to the PCPA stage with a full band for an evening of stories and songs, according to a press release from Poway OnStage. He has sold over 20 million albums worldwide and has had five No. 1 hits, including “Nothin’ but the Taillights,” “A Better Man” and “Put Yourself in My Shoes.”

Washington’s premier political satirist, Capitol Steps, return at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 for a night of politically-based comedy. Capitol Steps have performed in Poway for more than 15 years, and return again in the 2016-17 season just in time for the campaign season.

Singer-songwriter Neko Case will perform along with a special guest at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19. Case, who has been called “one of America’s best and most ambitious songwriters” by Rolling Stone, has drawn comparisons to Linda Rondstadt and Patsy Cline. Her body of works is a mix of folk, indie rock and country, according to a press release.

Just in time for the holiday season is Home Free, who will be performing at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. Champions of NBC’s “The Sing-Off,” Home Free will combine contemporary country and pop into a Christmas show, all a cappella. A VIP meet-and-greet with the band is available for $50.

The season continues into the new year with the Fabulous Thunderbirds, performing at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21. The group has spent 30 years performing rock and blues with hits like “Tuff Enuff,” “Wrap it Up” and “Powerful Stuff.” Led by band leader and harmonica player Kim Wilson, the Fabulous Thunderbirds are a mainstay on the blues festival circuit, according to a press release.

Jose Feliciano continues his 50-year music career with a stop at the PCPA at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. Feliciano, known for bridging the gap between Latin and popular music, according to a press release, has earned 45 gold and platinum records and is considered one of the world’s most widely respected guitarists.

The Irish Rovers make a stop on the PCPA stage during their 50th anniversary tour at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 9. The Irish Rovers have released more than 40 albums in the United States over the past 50 years. This tour is billed as their last before retiring, according to a press release.

Guitar virtuoso Andy McKee, with special guest Celino Romero, will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 8 as part of Poway OnStage’s “Perfect Pairings” series. Romero is the voice of the Romero Family, a guitar dynasty well known in the music world, according to a press release.

The PCPA will take a trip to India with “Taj Express: The Bollywood Musical Review,” at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23. This show will capture the vibrant spirit of the world of Bollywood movies, according to a press release, and will feature a fusion of film, dance and music.

The Doo Wop Project will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 29. Trace the evlotion of Doo Wop from the classic sound to the modern hits today, according to a press release. Enjoy music from the Crests, Belmonts and Falingos to Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, the Four Seasons and even modern performers like Jason Mraz and Amy Winehouse. The Doo Wop Project features current and former stars of “Jersey Boys” and “Motown: The Musical.”

Finishing off the 2016-17 Professional Performance series will be Back to the Garden Band performing “Sounds of Laurel Canyon,” at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 20. This performance will feature the music of the Byrds, the Doors, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Joni Mitchell, the Mamas and the Papas, Carole King, the Eagles and more.
