Memorial Day services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30 at Dearborn Memorial Park, 14361 Tierra Bonita Road. The ceremony will honor Poway’s fallen veterans.

Fleet Reserve Association Branch 70, VFW Post 7907, American Legion Post 479 and the Poway Chapter of Military Officers Association of America will conduct the services.

The Westview High School Navy JROTC and several Boy and Cub Scouts will also be in attendance at the ceremony.

The colors will be presented and posted, and the services will feature a special guest speaker, City Councilman Jim Cunningham, who serves as a captain in the California State Military Reserve. The master of ceremonies will be Fleet Reserve Association Branch 70 President Allen Langteau.

Representatives of each involved organization will also give a brief speech before performing a Memorial Day ceremony following Cunningham. The VFW’s representative will go first, followed by the American Legion, the MOAA and the Fleet Reserve, which puts on the event, will go last.

Two buglers will play “Taps” to finish out the ceremony.

The ceremony will last about an hour. Chairs will not be provided, so those who wish to sit during the ceremony will need to bring their own.

Attendees are invited to the Fleet Reserve Club, 14231 Garden Road, after the services for hot dogs and hamburgers.

Prior to the ceremony, Boy and Cub Scouts will be placing flags on the graves of all veterans in the cemetery. Extra flags will be available for those who might be missed, including the recently buried or those who don’t have their military service indicated on their headstone.
