A DUI checkpoint will be held from 9 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday in Poway.

San Diego Sheriff’s Department deputies will be checking for drivers operating motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They will also be checking for drivers who are driving while unlicensed or with a suspended license.

The checkpoint’s primary purpose is to educate the public on the dangers associated with drinking and driving, according to a press release. Additionally, the checkpoint is intended to serve as a deterrent to potentially impaired drivers.

Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
