Concert today to honor Tony Gwynn

A hometown hero concert is today honoring the memory of Tony Gwynn, aka “Mr. Padre,” who played with the San Diego Padres for nearly two decades.

The entertainment lineup features Gwynn’s longtime Padres teammate Tim Flannery with his band the Lunatic Fringe.

The evening will feature guest appearances by San Diego sports stars such as Shawne Merriman, Trevor Hoffman and Mark Grant and will be emceed by San Diego media personality Mark Larson.

Entertainment includes Richie McDonald of Lonestar, Steve Vaus, Glen Erath, Eve Selis and Back to the Garden.

The evening includes memories and memorabilia of Tony Gwynn. There will be a live auction of unique Tony Gwynn memorabilia, and the opportunity to be recognized as a sponsor on the memorial’s donor wall. The evening culminates in the unveiling of the design for the Tony Gwynn memorial.

Proceeds go to the memorial sculpture of Tony Gwynn, who had lived in Poway.

The “Music & Memories- Honoring a Hometown Hero” concert is 8 p.m. April 1 at

the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, 15498 Espola Road.

Tickets range from $35 to $75 ($100 sold out); all ages need a ticket. The promotional code tgwynn19 gives a 19% discount.
